Chicago City Limits The Collegiate Times By Ashley Hall
The eclectic mix of audience members found their seats, clutching their programs. The music of Barenaked Ladies blared through the speakers of the Lyric Theater, setting the mood for a spontaneous night. The audience seemed to anticipate the surprises to come.
Acclaimed improvisational group Chicago City Limits would soon hit the stage. The audience members included local residents from young children to senior citizens and, of course, students. All seemed to have different reasons for attending the show.
“We were in an improv group last year, and thought it’d be cool to see the professionals,” said Kate Glusiec, junior mining engineering and geology major, for herself and her friends who attended the show.
All the audience members seemed to have different levels of experience when it came to improvisational comedy. Some had never seen improv and weren’t entirely sure what to expect; others said they loved this type of comedy and wanted to see more. A mother/daughter pair spoke about their previous experience with improv before the show.
“We saw Second City last year in Charleston, S.C. … It opened me up more to comedy, and made me want to see more improv,” said Erin Hudgins, the daughter, who attends Blacksburg High School.
